The Afterlife and the Reality of our Ephemeral Existence
The Afterlife and the Reality of our Ephemeral Existence   (2016-09-17 10:49:07)
The general decline of religious belief in modern man has resulted in the abandonment of the belief in the Afterlife. As such, death is seen as the final fall of the curtain, bringing an end to the meaningless cosmic anomaly called ‘intelligent life’.  The idea that there is nothing beyond this world has not led to the liberation of the human mind but to an obsessive attachment to life itself and a frantic, futile effort to escape death.  Humans have tried persistently to  escape death, whether it is by searching  for the stream of eternal life, pumping  bodies with cocktails of chemicals and  make-up, mummifying them, or more  recently, cryogenically freezing bodies  or heads right after death in the hope  ...Read more

Fasting among the faiths: It’s not only Muslims during Ramadan
Fasting among the faiths: It’s not only Muslims during Ramadan   (2016-06-23 12:35:11)
For millions of Muslims around the world, the holy month of Ramadan is a time for reflection and abstinence. It is a time when those who follow Islam are supposed to clear their minds of distractions and dedicate more of their attention to their faith. It is probably more noticeable for those who are not from traditionally Muslim countries, because Ramadan is adhered to more strictly by so many on such a large scale. But Islam is not the only religion that fasts – indeed many faiths at some point in the calendar require their followers to offer some level of abstinence. Fasting tends to be from food, drink, smoking, and acts that give pleasure such as sexual intercourse and listening to music – and while the reasons might appear to vary between religions, it is largely to focus the minds of those observing their fasts on their faith. Here we look at religions that fast and what is involved: Muslims: The Muslim ...Read more

Ramadan: The Month of Mercy   (2015-06-24 09:55:39)
Allah says in the Holy Quran: {The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).} (The Heifer, verse 185) What emphasizes the necessity of preparation for this holy month is that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his Household) used to give his family the good tidings of the advent of this month, and he used to counsel his companions to get ready for its nights and days. The month of Ramadan is a chance to return to Allah and to transcend spiritually and morally. Thus, it is important that we should heed a number of aspects related to this holy month and to benefit from every minute which passes by. 1-Fasting is for God A person should be aware that fasting is an honor and that God grants the reward for it, as the Sacred Narration states: "All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting; it is for ...Read more
