Introduction

Council of Iranian Researchers on Religion is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-partisan institute. Founded in1998 by the order of then minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Qom, the council aims at strengthening and expanding studies on religion, enhancing informational services concerned, as well as supporting centers of religion studies and researchers on religion.

In 2005, due to government change and some following disagreements between the ministry and the council, it, s activities stopped, not being financed anymore by the government.

 But now (July, 2013) considering the establishment of a new government with cultural approaches and at the request of centers of religion studies and researchers on religion, the council is going to resume it, s activities.

Some Activities of the Council:

I. Holding national conferences on religion studies with the attendance of Iran^, s top scholars and researchers on religion:

1^St:  "Obstacles, Barriers and Obligations in the Realm of Religion Studies", Dec. 1998

2^nd:  "Contemporary Studies on Religion, New Medium, New Demurs", Apr. 2000

3^rd:  "Relations between Religion and Culture in the Society of Iran", Jan. 2001

4^th: "Globalization and Religion; Opportunities and Challenges", Apr. 2003

5^th: "Studies on Religion in Contemporary Iran; Opportunities and Challenges" to be held in Qom and Tehran, 2014-2015

II. Holding annual congresses titled "Honoring Top Researchers on Religion" for 9 successive years since 2007 in which all the institutes and researchers studying on religion are invited to submit their works. The received works are graded in three levels: "Supreme", "Elected" and "Acknowledged", being evaluated for three times in 12 independent groups under the supervision of the scientific board and jury committee of the congress.

During 9 of these congresses, 39 research works have received the title "Supreme", 108 works "Elected", 34 others "Acknowledged", all of them being materially and spiritually supported. Besides, 26 research projects have specially been granted "Certificate of Appreciation" by then president, Hujjat-ul- Eslam Khatami.  

-Making arrangements to hold the 10^th congress of "Honoring Top Researchers on Religion" in 2015

III: Holding up to 22 scientific sessions on topics like: Globalization and Global Ruling of the Promised (Mahdi), Ethical Aspects of Hussain^, s Movement, Politics and Wisdom in Prophet^, s Government, etc. with the attendance of top critics and researchers on religion from academic centers and seminary schools.

-Making arrangements to hold up to 40 scientific sessions within the next year on important dates according to Hijri calendar.
